Kifri's Kurdish townspeople seek a place of safety on
the eastern flank of the northern front in Iraq. The Iraqi front line
launched a series of mortar attacks in retaliation for a "coalition"
bombing of their position earlier in the morning. At the funeral of
a young man killed in the attack, men prepare the body for burial.
The women wail and pound themselves on the chest and in the face.
They look to the sky, appealing to a greater power and screaming the
name of Saddam Hussein in rage. |
