An old "Enarc" arc lamp projector, at the "New Shirin Talkies" cinema, Mumbai (Bombay), Is still doing daily service. In the Fifties, India’s Nehruvian socialism banned most imports, so by the Eighties, India’s cameras and projectors were historical artifacts. Cinema-goers became accustomed to dim projection, poor focus and quavering sound. Things are now changing for the better.
