HAPPY TO BE HERE Mary Bourgeois hugs her friend Mike Kramer in the destroyed sanctuary of St. Patricks Church in Port Sulphur, La., a small town about 50 miles south of New Orleans on the Mississippi. It was in the direct path of the storm. Eleven people, including the priest, rode the storm out in the choir loft of the 1800s-era building. It was the only building in Port Sulphur to survive. One parishioner stood back and looked at the damage. "And to think we just spent months waterproofing the building," he laughed.
