Icon at the mouth of the Hudson River in New York Harbor, the Statue of Liberty welcomes Americans, visitors, and immigrants, including South Asians on a sightseeing tour boat. The United States, home to 2.32 million persons of Indian origin, is perhaps the greatest beneficiary of the worldwide migration of Indians--people who often bring a facility with English, education credentials, democratic ideals, and a tolerance for other cultures to the more than 100 countries where they live and work.
